5 Minutes With… Norbert Kristof

Norbert Kristof is from Miskolc in Hungary. He received his first guitar when he was 13 years old, and spent his formative years learning to play, record and perform. He started making music professionally 10 years ago. Although his original musical inspirations were all bands, Norbert grew to love the world of singer-songwriting, including such names as Damien Rice and Elliott Smith. Despite this, he still sees himself as a rock artist, and not a traditional singer-songwriter.

How would you describe your music in 5 words or less?
Melancholic, Mantralike, Soaring Balladry.

Who or what inspired you to become a musician?
Kurt Cobain when I was 13 years old.

Which do you prefer, studio or stage?
Both are amazing.

Proudest moment on stage?
Cannot really pick one. All those moments when I was able to make a connection with the audience.

Who would you invite to your perfect dinner party? Why?
Bill Murray. Just because he is the coolest.

Where is the best place in the Hungarian countryside to watch the autumn colors?
I can’t help you on this one. I mostly go to the countryside in the summer.

What is your musical dream or ambition?
To find an amazing band to work with, a manager, a producer and to tour the world. I would love to write a movie soundtrack for a director I love.

Which one do you prefer, mulled wine or beer?
Neither. When I’m in a real crazy party mood I mostly drink Pepsi with lemon.

Which stage/venue would you play at outside of Hungary?
Coachella in the late afternoon when you can see the palm trees and the sun going down from the stage.

Now that winter is approaching quickly, which beach anywhere in the world would you like to play a gig on?
I don’t know much about any festivals or clubs located on a beach. Don’t know much about beach places either! But I would love to play a gig with friends, something like the Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin’ video.

If you could choose one of your songs for an Olympic ice dancing routine, which one would it be and why?
Animal Bones, just because it’s poppy and haunting.

Describe your perfect autumn’s day in Budapest!
Right after waking up going to the airport to travel somewhere where it’s summer!

Scientists have proved that some people feel music so strongly the sensations can be compared to sex. Can that be applied to you? Which song would you like to make your skin orgasm?
Sure! Go and check out the outro of the song After Rain from Dermot Kennedy.
